The focus of YKS coaching
YKS coaching helps students organise preparation for Turkey’s university entrance examinations around their goals and current skills. It addresses how to allocate time between subjects, learn from practice exams and revise the study plan.
A student attending school and a graduate preparing independently have different amounts of time available. Their target field, stronger subjects and untouched topics also affect the plan. Giving everyone the same timetable may therefore fall short of individual support.
Balancing TYT and subject-specific study
A plan should not revolve only around favourite subjects. TYT preparation should be considered alongside the subject-specific work needed for the student’s goal. Check the official guide for the relevant year to confirm which sessions and score type apply to the intended programme.
For example, a candidate with an established reading-comprehension routine but gaps in basic maths may need to shift weekly priorities. This does not mean abandoning stronger subjects: make room both for maintaining skills and addressing gaps.
What should progress tracking show?
A clear plan identifies the task, resource and review date. Instead of “physics this week,” specify a topic, learning material and an end-of-topic check. At the next meeting, discuss how the student solved questions as well as how much work was completed.
A practice exam is more than one total score. Unfinished sections, recurring knowledge gaps and rushed calculations call for different decisions. Looking for patterns across several exams can reduce constant changes based on one result.
Setting realistic expectations
Coaching does not study on the student’s behalf, automatically replace subject teaching or guarantee a particular ranking. Discuss the service’s boundaries, meeting frequency and approach to referring students for other support when needed.
Prepare a topic list, recent exam results and weekly schedule for the first meeting. Asking “What will we track during the first two weeks?” can help you assess whether the proposed support fits your needs.
Making progress visible
Look beyond score changes during the first weeks. Can the student identify a daily priority, explain why a task was unfinished or recognise a recurring mistake in a new question? These observations help you assess whether the study process is becoming clearer and more manageable.
