The first meeting: Understanding the starting point
Online LGS coaching uses remote meetings to plan and review study work. Services differ between providers; the following is an example process to discuss when making enquiries. An initial meeting may cover the school timetable, learning resources, previous practice exams and difficulties the student has noticed.
“I cannot keep up” needs a more specific explanation. How much time is available after school? What happens during a study session? Is the difficulty understanding a topic or getting started? The answers should shape the plan.
Building a weekly plan
The coach and student can agree on topics, resources and a review date. Keep the plan in a document the student can access. A complicated app is not essential: a simple record with dates, tasks and review notes may be enough.
For example, reviewing a maths topic, practising relevant questions and checking that topic in an exam are connected tasks. Sharing only the number of questions completed may not reveal which skill is improving.
Support between meetings
Agree in advance how completed tasks and difficulties will be shared. Not every package includes daily contact or immediate solutions to subject questions. The communication channel, response times and any subject teaching should be clearly explained.
A weekly review should check whether the plan is workable. If one task keeps being postponed, examine its size, the difficulty of the resource and the time allocated rather than simply moving it to another date.
Preparing for a meeting
Check the internet connection, microphone and meeting link beforehand. Choose a place where the student can speak without interruption. Remove unnecessary personal information before sharing practice exam reports.
Avoid asking the student to follow several conflicting plans from different adults. Agree how the parent, coach and student will share observations, then review whether the schedule and communication arrangements fit daily life.
Keep the technical setup simple
Before the first session, make sure the student can open the document being used. Ask whether sessions are recorded and what happens if the connection drops. A simple arrangement that the student can use independently is more useful than a tool they cannot comfortably navigate.
